HOW I FOUND OUT ABOUT
My Scorpio Rising
I am prefacing this by mentioning I am a September Virgo and my sun sign has nothing over my Scorpio rising.
My earliest memories of being 7 or 8 years old and being obsessed with personality quizzes — I didn’t spend time wanting to build friendships but I was so eager to understand myself and to validate my personality. A bit odd right? I remember receiving Zodiac Sign journals, all Virgo themed naturally, and I would try to convince myself: Virgos are perfectionists, so am I; Virgos are logical and systematic, so I have to be too… but just how practical can an 8 year old be? Daily horoscopes weren’t far either, it was kind of a looming fascination for these astral predictions that moved my belief system into thinking “now this is something that resonates” (although Virgo horoscopes never quite fit). I always wondered why.
Digging deeper into my teen years, I wasn’t explicitly searching, yet I fell on ar article that explained how daily horoscopes are written; “how they are not based on your sun sign”, but on your Rising! That placement is calculated (via the Placidus house division system) by using your exact time of birth. So I went scouting for that too. Once that long adventure came to its end, my birth chart revealed I was a Scorpio Rising and that Scorpio-based horoscopes were going to fit as the more personalized predictions I was so desperately seeking.

Upon finding this out: I then knew how to dress up my appearance to fit what felt like my authentic self. My box-dye black hair became indispensable, and various shades of black, red and burgundy became a staple in my leather accentuated wardrobe.
It’s interesting to note this major difference:
Horoscopes are written according to Whole Sign House System which in a Natal Chart Reading, does not consider your Rising Sign degree.
If your Rising Sign is at 13 degrees like me (an Aries-ruled degree) then as per Whole Sign House division system, your true Natal Chart won’t accurately start at a 0 degrees Rising Sign. This means your second house may start in your same 1H sign or it may skip a sign depending on the movement of the sun for the first 2 hours since the time of your birth — and that’s on the Placidus system.
A clarifying definition
“Placidus is a time-based method of calculating the houses that was devised during the Renaissance. It works by marking the cusps of the houses in two-hour increments from your time of birth. The degree of the zodiac sign rising on the Eastern Horizon at your time of birth marks the cusp of the 1st house.”
Even though the Whole Sign House method is the most ancient, used during the Ancient Greek and Babylonian times, renowned by the first Astrologers, it is inaccurate for everyone that has a Rising Sign at any other degree but 0.
“Whole Sign Houses is one of the oldest house systems, originating from the Hellenistic period. It is a method of house division that uses the rising sign as the first house (regardless of the true cuspal degree of the Ascendant, the 1st house starts at 0° of the rising sign), and then the rest of the houses are assigned to each of the signs in zodiacal order, with each of the twelve houses exactly coinciding with each of the signs and divided into 12 equal chunks of 30 degrees.”
This was like opening Pandora’s box… the journey did not in fact end there.
ENDLESS TRANSFORMATION
The rise of the phoenix within
Ask them. Any Scorpio Rising that scorches your life with lessons about depth through the trenches of passionate intimacy, platonically even: these people will teach you more about yourself. I digress, ask them: how have they become so in tune with the true nature of their inner selves? Amidst the trust issues, the paranoia and seemingly obsession that follows their mysterious yet powerful aura.
As one myself, I want to share the truth: our life path forces us to constantly transform beyond the stability of a consistent sense of identity. How? Unexpected yet harsh life events? Crazy relationships that teach you to preserve-yourself-before-inevitably-enmeshing-with-someone-you-barely-know-101?
This is where getting my Natal Chart Reading has saved me years of mistakes and has provided me the odd wisdom that people are always surprised to see me embody this early in my 20s.

Since at least 8 years ago, I've always read what felt like inaccurate horoscopes for my Sun Sign: Virgo (the early September child in me somewhat felt called to the servitude of the Maiden). I'm sure most of us will strongly associate with our birth month Zodiac, until, to your eventual surprise and mine, the following discovery hits.
Horoscope predictions refer to the areas of your life or Natal Chart Houses based on your Rising Sign, unless your Sun Sign happens to be the same as your Ascendant.
With that established, your 1H in Astrology or the house of your Ascendant is used to determine what is likely to catch your attention that day, week or month... It then dawned upon me that my Virgo Sun rests in my 11th House (definitely not the right point of reference) and my Rising Sign starts at 13 degrees of Scorpio (instead of 0 degrees, as explained is the method of reference of general Whole Sign horoscopes) — meaning I need to always look back at my chart to see where transiting planets land, since there may be a House discrepancy. If this sounds complicated to keep track of, worry not! I’ve made this into an easy report when you book One-Time transit readings, Monthly Full/New Moon readings or Yearly transit readings with at least 5 different planetary alignment’s described for each month and how that interacts with your birth chart, for the last option.

There's more to you than just your Sun Sign!
That's when that saying of mine finally made sense. It resonated as deep as my bones and as far as the vastness of... well the ocean, or space or anything grand.

FAQs
Q: What is the Ascendant/Rising Sign?
A: It is the astrological sign on the eastern horizon when YOU were born. It influences the qualities of your physical appearance, such as the first impression you make on others, your aura, your facial features and your preferred authentic style. It is also the lens that your Soul has decided to perceive the world through: your Rising Sign is the 1st house of your natal astrological wheel, so every house/sign that follows will be lead by the original perspective/position of your Ascendant/Rising Sign.
Q: What is the Descendant position in your chart?
A: Have you heard of opposites attract? The Descendant is the 7th house which opposes the Ascendant at 180° and it represents qualities that you long for or even admire in someone else (the 7H is also the house of partnerships, business contracts or marriage, but also the general house of commitments).
Q: What other important core placements should I know about?
A: The Angular houses (1H, 4H, 7H, 10H) are important anchor points in your life, which are seen in your Natal Chart. The 4th house being your IC (Imum Coeli) and representing the maternal connection to “home” or the roots and foundations that pave the pathway to the Self. And the 10th house being your MC (Medium Coeli) which is your FAME FACTOR or the paternal connection to external validation or “public image ” and how the world conditions you into building your legacy.
